Consistently ranked in the world’s Top 100, McMaster placed 85th out of more than 1,800 institutions and fourth in Canada in the 2023 Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings. We ranked 19th globally in Clinical and Health.

In our commitment to creating a brighter world, the THE 2022 Impact Rankings have recognized and ranked McMaster’s achievements as 37th in the world. While most of our research is tied directly to the UN SDGs and their targets, we are ranked 1st in Canada for our work in:

- Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8)

Research Intensity
McMaster ranked 3rd in Research University of the Year 2022.
McMaster University continues to rank among the country’s most research-intensive universities – for both graduate students and faculty members – in the annual ranking of the country’s Top 50 Research Universities. McMaster placed 2nd in Graduate Student Research Intensity – averaging $74,200 per graduate student, and 2nd in Faculty Research Intensity – averaging $419,000 per faculty member; significantly above the national average for both.

McMaster counts four Nobel Prize laureates among our alumni and faculty, as well as 129 endowed chairs and professorships, 70 Canada Research Chairs, six Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Industrial Research Chairs, two Canadian Institutes of Health Research Chairs, two Ontario Research Chairs and one Canada 150 Research Chair.
